On the reverse side of the medal is the Iron Cross with the dates 1870 - 1871 inscribed in the middle. These are the years of the Franco-Prussian War. Rays shoot off from between the arms of the cross. A wreath of laurel is also on the reverse of the medal. Inscribed on the edge of the medal are the words "Aus Erobertem Gescheutz" which translates to "from captured/conquered cannon."
