Description:
This is a 1896 US Customs Cording Seal that was patented by EJ Brooks. The cording seal was used for sealing commercial packing-cases and baggage. The patent application was submitted October 26, 1896 and approved on December 22, 1896. The front of the cording seal around the top says "E.J. Brooks and Co. N.Y. Pat. Dec. 22, 96." In the center of the seal says "US Customs in Bond" with two keys crossed beneath it. Around the bottom it says "New York, NY." The EJ Brooks and Co. was located in New York, NY.
